My View From Las Vegas

Good morning, trying to keep up with a vicious schedual, and the time just keeps evaporating before me. The energy level is high, but the time is just not there.

The last week has been one where the temps. are at or near record highs, and this is impacting more today because the humidity is beginning to creep upward, and there are actually clouds in the sky. It has been over 110 every day for the last week or more. Ordinarily this would not be too uncomfortable, but just a few clicks in the humidity and you are double uncomfortable.

The truth of the matter is that when I overlook this year as a whole, I don't feel as if I have lived up to my resolve to try and give any reader some special view of what is happening here in Las Vegas. I have really been too caught up in my own life circumstances in order to become necessarily objective and informative. I apologize for this, and as the last half of this year draws on I will try harder to let you see what's going on here.

This is about as hot as it gets in Las Vegas, somewhere up there around 112 in the shade at airport. I have to tell you that there is something about the high temps. that is attractive to me, and this is even so while I work outdoors. A part of this is that I hate the cold so much that each time the heat might cause some discomfort, I stop and think about what the cold equivalent would feel like and then it automatically feels better. You can go by the pools here, and the humidity is low so there is compensation in that way. Right now we are in a heat wave, 115 tomorrow, no let up in sight. I am in the University library right now, and I will be honest and tell you that it is one very warm day here in Las Vegas.

The elections for Union Officials took place on Saturday, June, 28. What happened was no surprise. The new regime headed by Jim Gardner will face a daunting task to lead a very difficult group.
